Dialup Troubleshooting - Dialup Number is Long Distance
If the phone number in the Connection Dialog Box shows up as long distance and you believe that it should not be, then the Area Code may be incorrectly setup within your computer.
Windows 9x/ME/2000

In Windows 95/98/Me/2000, checking the installed Area Code is very easy. First, open the Connection Dialog Box.

Notice that the phone number is showing long distance. If I were dialing from Astor (in Lake County) then this would indicate that the area code stored within the computer was incorrect. To check this, click on the Dial Properties button.

Look in the Area code box - notice that the area code is set to 386. This is incorrect. Change the Area code box to read 352 (the area code that matches the number that you are dialing). Click on the Apply button, then click on Ok. You should be all set!

Windows XP

Checking the stored area code in Windows XP can sometimes be a chore because Windows XP allows one to tailor the way it displays computer settings to his own specific tastes. First, click on Start, then click on Control Panel. If a window opens up prompting you to "Pick a category," then you are in Category Mode - select Printers and Other Hardware then select Phone and Modem Options. If you do not see the "Pick a Category Prompt, then you are in the Classic View - select Phone and Modem Options. You should now see a window like the following:

If you see the correct area code for your location in the box, then great! Your computer is setup correctly, but you may have selected the wrong county when running the USA2net Configuration CD - resetting your account using the USA2net Configuration CD should correct this. If, however, you see an incorrect area code when viewing this window, click on the proper Location (in this case, New Location) to select it, then click the Edit button.

Edit the Area Code box to read the correct Area Code for your region, then select Apply, then Ok. You can now safely close all of the open windows, and you should be set to dial into USA2net!
